Start your engines – the long-awaited new addition to the Gran Turismo series, Gran Turismo 7, is here.
Built from the tires-up for the latest generation of consoles, the PS5 exclusive title incorporates all of the new technology that the new system has to offer: adaptive triggers, haptic feedback technology and most excitingly for us sound folk, 3D audio capabilities.
25 years on from the first instalment, developers Polyphony Digital continue to build on the 25-year heritage of the racing simulator franchise. Gran Turismo 7 producer Kazunori Yamauchi has put immersion at the forefront of the latest title, aiming to make “a simulator that everyone can enjoy”.
This awesome video demonstrates one of the many details that went into the Gran Turismo 7 Sound Design. The Shelby GT350 is loaded with 4 exhaust types each with it’s own authentic and unique sounds. the attention to detail is impeccable:

The video below from the Gran Turismo 7 – State of Play Deep Dive from PlayStation’s YouTube channel starts at their Sound and 3D Audio section. Yamauchi san immerses the player in a 3D sonic environment, experiencing sound sources from all directions to make the experience as realistic as possible.
Moreover, we got to experience the sheer depth of detail that went into the sounds of the game – from the authenticity of each cars engine sound, tyre screeches across different environments, realistic in-car sounds, doppler effects from passing cars, through to the sound of rain and other weather on the various areas of the car – the sound design in the game is exceptional.
These are only a few samples of Gran Turismo 7’s Sound Design, and based off of this we can see the attention to detail that went into the sound of the latest racing simulator title, as well as its visuals. The GT7 experience is awesome for players, car enthusiasts, and sound folk alike. As for us, we can’t get enough!
